Vintage Italian travel posters are the rarest to find because during the course of the second world war many were lost and they were not as collected and kept as were the French travel posters. So when we find a beautiful art nouveau italian travel poster it can be very rare and one of the few known copies. The Italian Railways or ENIT as you will see in the bottom corner represents the official logo of these posters dating to the 1920’s 30’s. During the 1920s, the Italian State Railways promoted domestic travel through striking posters. These advertisements encouraged Italians and international visitors to explore the country’s scenic and historic sites by train.
Cesare Simonetti, born in 1862, was well-known for his commercial art, particularly travel posters. His work appeared in various auctions, demonstrating his lasting influence on early 20th-century Italian design. The Spoleto poster remains a remarkable piece, blending art and travel promotion to highlight Umbria’s timeless appeal.

Ferrara Mario Borgoni Italy – Mario Borgoni, an Italian artist known for his travel posters, designed the Ferrara poster as part of his promotional work for the Italian tourism industry and Enit the Italian Railways in 1928. Pictured is the Castello Estense (Este Castle) is a moated medieval fortress located in the center of Ferrara, Italy. It was built in 1385 by Niccolò II d’Este, the ruler of Ferrara, in response to a popular uprising. The castle was designed as both a military stronghold and a noble residence, with its massive defensive towers, drawbridges, and elegant interior halls.
