    A-B Aerotransport — Swedish Air Lines — Anders Beckman — circa 1930

A stunning original Swedish aviation poster by Anders Beckman for A-B Aerotransport (ABA), depicting an aircraft in flight on a bright, clear day above the ABA insignia. The composition combines photomontage with bold typographic elements, creating a strong sense of movement and modernity. The integration of clouds and lettering reflects the influence of leading European graphic designers of the period, resulting in a refined and visually striking image.

A-B Aerotransport was a Swedish government-owned airline operating during the first half of the 20th century and later became part of the group that formed Scandinavian Airlines (SAS). This poster dates from the early years of the airline, a period that marked the rapid development of commercial aviation in Europe. ABA was among the pioneers of modern air travel in Scandinavia, helping to establish reliable routes and expand the possibilities of longer-distance flight.

Printed by Ivor Haeggstroms Lito, Stockholm, this poster is an excellent example of early Scandinavian modernist graphic design, combining photomontage and typography in a forward-looking style. Examples are rarely encountered, particularly in such well-preserved condition, and it stands as both a decorative and historically significant piece from the formative years of European aviation.

The artwork is derived from Uemura Shōkō’s 1936 painting Jo no Mai, a study of a Noh dance prelude. COSULICH LINE
    Artist: Klodic
    Date: 1933

Original 1933 poster for the Cosulich Line, designed by Klodic and printed at Calcocromia, Novara. The poster served as a timetable of departures from Napoli and Palermo for routes to North and South America, issued before the company’s merger into Italia Flotte Riunite later in the 1930s.

The design includes depictions of both the Saturnia and Vulcania, two of the Cosulich Line’s principal transatlantic passenger ships of the period. An Italian tax stamp appears on the sheet, confirming official publication and circulation. The date 15 February 1933 is shown along with the Fascist-era date notation Anno XI, indicating the eleventh year of the Fascist calendar in use at the time.

This is a rare surviving example of an original Cosulich Line timetable poster from the early 1930s. Printed in Italy using lithography, it has been professionally mounted on linen and remains in excellent condition.

The Cosulich Line, founded in Trieste in 1903 by the Cosulich family, operated passenger and freight routes across the Adriatic and to the Americas. The company’s ships, including the Saturnia and Vulcania, were among the most advanced Italian liners of their time. In 1937, the Cosulich Line was absorbed into the newly consolidated Italia Flotte Riunite, forming part of Italy’s unified national shipping service.
