Ringo Starr by Richard Avedon (1967–68) – Original Beatles Pop Art Poster
This is the original 1967–68 Pop Art poster of Ringo Starr, created by photographer Richard Avedon for STERN Magazine in Germany. It is one of four color portraits from the complete Beatles series produced during the height of the psychedelic era. These are authentic first printings from the original release, not later reproductions.
In late 1967, Avedon photographed each of the Beatles individually in a specially arranged London studio session. He later transformed the portraits into vivid Pop Art images using color separations, solarization, and symbolic effects. The Ringo Starr poster, with its bright background and layered patterns, reflects the humor and individuality that made him one of the group’s most recognizable personalities. The posters were printed and distributed in early 1968 through STERN Magazine and affiliated publications in the United States and Europe.
This portrait of Ringo Starr remains a defining visual of the 1960s, combining Avedon’s refined photographic style with the experimental energy of the Pop Art movement. It has been exhibited internationally and continues to be one of the most collectible of the Beatles poster series.
