Created in 1995 by the Serbian-born French artist Vladimir Veličković, this striking poster was issued for the 26th Trophée Lancôme, the prestigious professional golf tournament held annually at the Golf de Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche near Paris. The Trophée Lancôme, founded in 1970, drew many of the world’s top players for more than three decades; the 1995 event was won by Scotsman Colin Montgomerie. Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche itself is one of France’s most renowned courses, known for its wooded fairways, classic layout, and long history of international players and visiting American presidents.
Veličković, a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts, brought his characteristic dynamic energy and expressionist style to this design, capturing the motion and intensity of sport in bold, gestural form.
