The image is of the bombing of the French Fleet docked at Mers-el-kebir at the beginning of the war when France fell to the Germans and the Vichy Government was working for the Germans. The Allies fearing that the fleet would be used by the germans against them decided to attack and destroy the fleet. Although only one battleship was sunk others were damaged and over 1297 French sailors perished. Rare and signed lithograph by one of France’s best marine artists.

Nice La Reine de la cote d’azur translates Nice the queen of the south of France done by Pierre Comba shows a local lady dressed in local fashion of the region of the time period. The view is on to the Port and after that the land Promende des Anglaise that goes up the coast. Her hands are full of flowers which are used in making french perfumes in the next town over of Grasse in the mountains just behind. The poster was printed at Mullet Imprimerie one of the best and renown printers with locations in Paris and Marseille and the poster is in excellent condition on linen.
